A fascination with the processes and techniques of making glass, specifically murrine which can be complex and time consuming, a lifelong interest in objects of curiosity and an appreciation for historical and contemporary art, forms the foundations of Simon’s work.
“My work is an exploration of narrative themes taken from personal experience and popular culture, whilst allowing one work to feed and drift in to the next. It is important to me that the process of making remains fun, it can be a long journey to realise a piece so it must hold my attention.”

Simon began his career in glass in 1990 working for Isle of Wight Studio Glass going on to work for studios in Malta and Shetland, in the mi nineties he took the role of Hot Glass Technician at the University of Sunderland, he was then offered a post at the University of Wolverhampton, where he still works and in 2009 completed an MA in Glass.
“Working in education has given me many opportunities to travel, meet and to work with some amazing artists. The students constantly bring fresh ideas and personalities, it is never boring for long!”
