Elliot’s Sculpture series has been described as “visually breath-taking” – “Surprising and unique among glass artists”
Walker is one of a handful of glassblowers in the world whose focus is solely on figurative sculpture. His work develops the relatively young history of studio glass in this country and steps boldly into forms of great originality and thought.

In Elliot’s words,
There is an element of surrealism in my sculpture, particularly in the Corruption series.
Surrealism and the Dada movement are something I have always been interested in, especially as a student of Freudian and Jungian psychology as the concepts of the subconscious and cultural archetypes are important foundations for interpretation of Surrealist works. I think that as a way of working, following your intuition and subconscious through automatic drawing and writing are useful tools for any artist and visually the movement has had a lasting impact on me and my work.
The goblet as a form in particular is a heavily ritualised object in traditional Christian culture but is also the ‘gold standard’ of handmade glass. For me it is a love hate relationship conceptually and as a maker and it’s impossible to separate the love from the hate as they seem to go hand in hand.
Taking inspiration from the great masters of the still life genre, particularly Van Beijeren and Steenwyck, Walkers subject matter is conjured from molten glass and preserved not for consumption but display; fruit mineralised like crystallised geodes, the beauty of which can be viewed in the dazzling intricacies of his technique.
About the artist
Elliot Walker
I am a sculptor working with molten glass as my primary medium. I studied glass making in the Historic Glass Quarter, Stourbridge, where I developed my basic skills that are the essential foundation for creating works in this challenging medium.
