This series fully exploits the qualities of optical glass. The water gilding is trapped inside
the bonded glass sculpture affording multiple reflections and refractions and complete
protection of the fragile leaf.
The result is an optical puzzle where colour appears and disappears where it cannot
possibly be. This is all a magical illusion.
Nancy is a glass artist with an international reputation. After graduating with a degree in
design she worked as a medical illustrator in London before moving to rural Herefordshire,
discovering glass engraving and setting up her studio there.
Her training involved attention to detail and precision, which combined with a love of
drawing from her imagination (aka ‘doodling’) has produced work of a uniquely distinctive
style. A restless creativity has also led to years of experimentation with gold leaf and paint
as applied to engraved glass. The result is a diverse portfolio of work, from drill engraved
vessels to verre églomisé wall panels, mirrors and the optical puzzle sculptures of her
latest series.
