Julie Light frequently collaborates with scientists to develop the ideas for her artwork, and here she uses the example of her collaboration with ocean scientist and taxonomist Dr Tammy Horton from the National Oceanography Centre to illustrate her creative process. She shares some of the information, ideas and inspiration she has gathered from working with her collaborative partner and shows how what she learns from the science and the conversations become integrated into her pieces.
470 GBP per Seapill perspex box cover included. I will contact you after purchase as to which colour you would like. Blue and Yellow are available – contact me at bethany@blowfishglassart.com if you’d like any more information
Julie Light’s creative practice focuses on body and form, whether human or creature, often in terms of health and disease. She explores how people imagine themselves internally or at a microscopic level, leading to unconventional portrayals of the body. She also investigates hybridity, especially where the animate and the inanimate come together. Her hypothesis is that alternative ways of understanding our physical being can influence our day-to-day sense of embodiment and identity. She frequently collaborates to create her artwork, with themes as wide-ranging as foetal biomechanics, deep ocean invertebrates, cancer, memory, and insomnia.
