Layne Rowe

ayne Rowe is an extremely gifted glass artist whose approach to colour, form and surface pattern has evolved radically. Layne’s journey in glass began in 1994 during his degree course in 3D design at the University of Central Lancashire. On graduating he worked at London Glassblowing for a number of years before moving to Brazil where he set up a glass studio before rejoining Peter Layton. He currently makes work from his own studio in Cambridgeshire still placing the necessity to work with fellow artists.

Layne’s work has been widely exhibited around the world, notably in the V&A’s ‘Power of Making’ exhibition.  During 2014 he showed alongside Grayson Perry and Alexander McQueen in “Subversive Design”, at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery. In 2015 Layne won the Design Award Bavarian State Prize for his cane overlay technique. On consecutive years he has shown in Collect at the Saatchi Gallery and then Somerset house in 2020.

Quill and Ink

Inspired by his love for birds, his Quill n’ Ink series, comprised of a set of five different feathers with different coloured ink.

Layne reverts to child hood memories for inspiration. Where his love for birds began and wishing for the ability to fly with the power of vision. Sculpted feathers with light, delicate details have led to large scale wings named (Pure intensions). Each individual Quill n ink is underlined with a poem.
