Molten Miniature - Russet

by Bethany Wood

£420.00

Taking inspiration from the world around us, Bethany’s work combines elements of the inner city and expansive landscapes, exploring themes like urban culture, graffiti and travel. Her glass-making practice is influenced by her passions for painting and performance, treating the glass as a canvas on which molten colours recreate the fleeting nature of brush strokes.

The beauty in these Molten Miniatures is that they are as stunning and tactile on the front as they are on the back or on the back as the front – They’re interchangeable and completely unique sculptural vessels.

Metal and mineral extracts play a particularly important part in creating glass colour. My collection’s metallic colours represent the metals that can be extracted from rock. Conceptually the healing properties of stones/rocks can also bring a sense of peace & calmness, which is a large part of my mindset when developing this collection.

This hybrid approach forms
spontaneous watery and lava-like relief flourishes, relishing in the serendipity of abstraction.
“I like to express myself through the fluidity of the material,” Bethany explains. “The directional arrangement of a colour palette can form the depth of an abstract landscape. I use my own paintings as a reference whilst making in the hot shop. A specific place has inspired each individual artwork from my series.”
