The Glass Heart: Art, Industry and Collaboration
Elliot Walker is exhibiting his work ‘ARTEFACT AFTERMATH‘ (2016) alongside many talented artists across the Spectrum of Glass in ‘The Glass Heart: Art, Industry and Collaboration’, curated by Antonia Harrison. This bold new exploration of glass in the UK brings together rarely-seen works from essential UK collections for the first time, celebrating this remarkable material – unforgiving, fragile, strong, and sustainable. ‘The Glass Heart’ will make you reconsider glass as we explore how it has illuminated and contained human narratives and ideas.
‘ARTEFACT AFTERMATH’ (2016) was initially conceived as a larger body of work, debuting in his first solo show ‘Half Life’ at Vessel Gallery, London, this unashamedly apocalyptic work explores the ‘post event’, the uninhabited world resulting from Nuclear war and what may be left behind. Though not didactic, this work investigates his fear and distrust of nuclear power and its imagined disastrous consequences, something he views as the epitome of our inexorable modernisation.

It asks questions such as: What will be the repercussions of opening Pandora’s box? On our food, our environment and our genetic future?
Beginning in the mid-19th century and plotting critical moments through the UK’s glassmaking history, glass is presented in the ‘The Glass Heart’ as an experimental art form for today alongside work from those collections that have grown out of the heartlands of a historic industry. Blowfish Glass calls one of these heartlands home, in the Midlands.
Expressive and amorphic from the initial molten state of its formation to the reflective and light-transmitting qualities of its final form, dazzling artworks here will shine a light on some of the now-endangered traditions of working in glass.
Running alongside the exhibition is an exciting series of events, including a delightful offer of a private breakfast viewing of the show for up to 25 guests, lasting two hours. More info below.
