This piece features traditional painted and leaded glass with an etched strawberry shape in red on a white background. The inspiration for this design came from William Morris, whose work is very popular. I wanted to offer a humorous twist on his style, even though I wouldn’t typically look to him for inspiration. This project was a departure from my usual sources, but I found many interesting elements in his work that opened up new creative possibilities for me.
Annie trained as a fine artist at the Slade and RCA and subsequently went to work for Goddard and Gibbs stained glass studios in the 1980s. In recent years, she has returned to her fine art roots, integrating 2D and 3D work with cast glass elements, which allow her to express her ideas in a freer way, without the constraints of architecture.
