An award-winning class sculptor, Elliot Walker is the manager of Blowfish Hot Shop, where he
facilitates the production of glass works for noted designers and artists alongside the creation of his
own work. Elliot studied glass making in Stourbridge’s Historic Glass Quarter, developing the essential
skills necessary to work in this challenging medium, before spending eight years working alongside
Peter Layton as part of the London Glassblowing studio team. His work has been exhibited
internationally, and he was the winner of the second season of Netflix glass-blowing competition
series Blown Away.
A keen experimenter, Elliot uses his work to visually represent psychological concepts, often
with a humorous edge, utilising precision-focused making skills explored through multi-component
sculpture. He also takes inspiration from traditional arts and sculpture, including still life painting, and
enjoys exploring glass’s potential to trick and subvert viewers’ visual and tactile experience.
“I have never been interested in populating the world with numerous copies of my work, and
because of this I only occasionally replicate a composition,” Elliot says. “The novelty of each
development has a significant impact on me personally and, almost like a gambling addiction, I am
constantly looking to regain that feeling of achievement or overcome a failure. This constant
searching or striving for an ideal composition or concept has given me a greater understanding of the
genre as a whole, and the obsessive nature of it.”
